When our founder's daughter was 14 years old, an 18 year old young man used SnapChat to contact her and other girls the ages from 12 to 14 year old girls. He would groom them and pick them up in his car when their parents weren't home. He would then drive to a remote spot and sexually assault them.
He then would use varies methods to intimidate them. He eventually told his friends, who reported him to the police. Part of his MO, he would threat to kill his victims, and told them he would hurt their parents.
When our founder found out, he pressed charges and stayed strong for his daughter, but needed healthy outlets to vent. As mentioned, he struggled to tell family, some didn't believe him. When he mentioned it to friends, many were feeling too awkward to talk about it. One person close to the founder, tried to make it about themselves. When he tried to find a therapist during COVID, he was put on a waiting list.
When he was looking for a support group to talk to anyone who knew his pain and experiences, he couldn't find one. He swore he would start his own to help others that need it.
To know his daughter before her attack, she was a bubbly, bright on-going child with lots of friends. The following year she was sullen, hard to get along with, and struggled to maintain relationships. We could go on and on about how this impacted her, but for respect to her and her privacy we won't.
Again no one knows what a parent goes through like another parent. Unfortunately, this is too common and we must unite to help remove the stigma and help families recover.
